For several years now Fulani cattle herders trekking southwards have been fighting crop farmers from other tribes. Fulani are mostly Muslims and crop farmers are mostly Christian. Therefore this gets known as a Muslim-Christian conflict, although it is primarily about food and water. Fulani herders, many with automatic weapons have been killing crop farmers in large numbers. However, in Lapan, Gombe State, they have come together in Interfaith Peacemaker Teams, agreeing that both sides have legitimate claims. The cattle must eat, and crops must be allowed to grow.
